Has religion made the world a better place?

I think that when religion is used correctly, when people are really filled with the true love of God, it is a good thing. When people go out of their way to help fellow man because they love them, it is good. When religion is used to belittle our neighbors or to condemn those we do not like, it is a bad thing indeed. A dangerously terrible thing.
