I just got the newest version of ipod nano, Is there any way to use my mp3 files on it?

I have over 1,500 mp3 and wma files of songs. Is there any kind of way i can just load them on my new ipod or are there any free converters out there to turn them into ipod readable files? i can only find ones that turn m4p to mp3. Help please.
